Photographic Workshops

Our photography workshops are suited to photographers of all levels. We keep our group sizes small enough to ensure that we are able to tailor photographic techniques to specific levels of photography.

The dates, itineraries and locations listed below are chosen to maximise the photographic opportunities. We aim to be in the right place when the light is at its absolute best. All of the locations we use are places we know intimately. This means we are able to react and work with any changing weather conditions.
We teach the workshops as a team, but on the rare occasion that only one of us is unavailable you are assured of the same attention and teaching quality.

Typically we will aim to cover the following topics:
- Exposure settings
- Composition
- Using and making the most of the available light
- Location finding
- Using filters & other more advanced techniques such as shooting in RAW can be covered.

Photographic workshops will usually last for around 5 hours and we'll often aim to be on location for either sunrise or sunset. We try to include a short break for a cuppa & a bite to eat and give ample time for critique and any questions.

Recommended photographic workshop requirements:
- Tripod or camera support
- DSLR or Compact camera with manual or creative settings
- Spare (charged) batteries & memory cards/film
- Comfortable shoes - most workshops involve quite a bit of walking!

We love woodlands at this time of the year - they are our favourite autumn haunts with amazing textures, atmosphere and colours. This workshop is popular with anyone who wishes to explore macro subjects and autumn of year is perfect for this... Although the colours are rich, this is also a great opportunity to shoot with black and white images in mind and learn how to work with tone. If we are lucky, we can often be treated to some magical mists to start the workshop with...

Time: 3pm - 8pm (approx)
Meeting place: Outside Covent Garden Tube Station (take the lift up if you don't like steps!)

Capture the magic of Christmas in London and explore lowlight photography techniques too. London offers an exciting variety of lights and sights at this time of the year, and gives us the perfect opportunity to enjoy the energy and atmosphere whilst learning some valuable lowlight techniques. You will definitely need a tripod, hat and gloves for this one but the results will be well worth it!
Starting in Covent Garden, we will explore the Xmas sights and then as the light begins to fade we will take in the lights along the route to Regents Street and the surrounding area.
This workshop is suitable for all levels.

Hunstanton - North Norfolk Coast
Hunstanton - North Norfolk Coast
£80.00

Date: TBA - February 2018
Time: 1pm - 6pm
Meeting place: Hunstanton Cliffs Car Park
Workshop Price: £80

Winter is the very best time to explore the North Norfolk beaches and one of the most photographically rich is Old Hunstanton with its sand patterns and lagoons formed by the retreating tide, boat wreck, lighthouse and dunes scattered with beach huts. Kite Surfers and Kite Buggies make colourful subjects and are wonderful subjects to practice panning and movement control. There are plenty of subjects for those who enjoy macro photography too. Sea birds hunting in the mussel beds and rock pools or perched on the jurassic cliff face add to the spectacle and this beach is the only spot on the East Coast for catching sunsets! Who can resist this one?

Wrap up warmly and soak up the atmosphere!

Our ''Cityscapes'' workshop is a great start to our 2014 London Low-Light series. On this one, we will be looking to start the afternoon off in picturesque St. James' Park which is usually awash with flowers at this time of year. From here it's a short walk through to Parliament Square with the Houses of Parliament & Big Ben. We then make our way across Westminster Bridge and down onto the Southbank for the late afternoon light and into early evening for some low-light photography tips and techniques. We will take in The London Eye, Waterloo Bridge and the magic of The Thames after sundown.

Cambridge offers a wealth of photographic opportunities all year round, and Spring is one of our favourites. Beautiful spring bulbs bloom in abundance along the backs of the colleges and the fresh greens of the willows reflect in the River Cam, creating a perfect backdrop to the warm hues of the stone architecture. From the bustling energy of the market to the peaceful sounds of punts, if inspiration is needed then this is definitely the place to come.

London Mid-summer Low Light
London Mid-summer Low Light
£80.00

Date: TBC June 2018
Time: 5.30pm start through to 1 hour after sunset (approx 10.30pm)
Meeting place: Oxo Tower, South Bank jetties
Workshop Price: £80

This is a great time of year for taking pictures in London, immediately after the summer solstice we get a fantastic long twilight period to work with. This is one of our classic and highly popular workshop, focussing mainly on getting great shots of the London Landmarks along the River Thames. The other main aim of this workshop is to work on understanding and making use of low-light photography techniques.

We start at the Oxo Tower on the South Bank, here we'll work on some of the excellent views and look at perfecting metering techniques and cityscape photo composition. Depending on the light conditions we'll work our way either down towards Tower Bridge and More London, via the Millennium Bridge and the classic view of St. Paul's Cathedral or in the opposite direction to take in The London Eye, Waterloo Bridge and the magic of The Thames after sundown.

There will be plenty of opportunities to develop your photographic skills and try some new techniques aimed at improving your pictures.

Our London Photography workshops are very popular and places are limited.
